Lincoln writes a second letter to Mrs. Abraham (Jane) Hoge, of Chicago, Illinois, regarding her request to obtain a "staff officer" appointment for her son. Previously, Lincoln outlined the "conditions" that would allow him to proceed with the appointment. He reiterates, "A Major-General must be found who has not already the full complement of Staff-officers...and who is willing to take your son as one of them.
