Prince of Wales passes through Springfield. Lincoln tells reporter
that he wanted to see royal visitor, but that action on his part
would have been inconsistent with dignity. So he remains at state
house, where he met "so many sovereigns during the day that really
the Prince had come and gone" before he knew it.
N.Y. Herald, 20 October 1860.
