State Republican convention meets in House of Representatives, and
unanimously resolves "that Abraham Lincoln is the first and only
choice of the Republicans of Illinois for the U.S. Senate."
Convention adjourns to meet at 8 P.M. when Lincoln, reading from
manuscript, delivers "House Divided" speech.
