Lincoln writes B. C. Lundy that his speech of June 26, 1857 is
available in pamphlet form at "Illinois Journal" office. "What you
say about our party doing something this year," he adds, "is
perfectly right. . . . I believe you are in the Peoria Senatorial
district—a district that has to be very thoroughly
cultivated—outside of it, up your way does not need much."
Abraham Lincoln to B. Clarke Lundy, 20 July 1857, CW, 2:412.
