In evening speaker Winthrop entertains Gen. Taylor "in company with a
large number of the Members of both Houses of Congress and other
distinguished persons."

Lincoln is not mentioned but may have attended. Lincoln writes two
short notes to Taylor recommending Edward D. Baker for cabinet,
enclosing testimonial papers.
