Reynolds and Whiteside to Atkinson, Black

Springfield, IL. Several groups of Stillman's men
rush out of camp at dusk and attack Black Hawk's truce bearers, bringing on
battle with 40 or 50 Indians. Whites are soon routed. Leaving 12 dead, they
