Lincoln writes Thomas Bohannan acknowledging receipt of notes of Allen & Stone for $117.94 and J. Francis for $50.35. Though he has been promised payment, he has received nothing, and will sue unless payment is made soon. He attends meeting of town board and in Matheny's absence serves as chairman. Lincoln writes and signs an agreement between the parties involved in the libel suit of Logan v. Adams. The two sides agree to continue the case until the Spring 1840 term of the Schuyler County Circuit Court. Stephen A. Douglass, one of the attorneys for defendant James Adams, also signs the agreement. Stuart & Lincoln are two of the attorneys who represent plaintiff Stephen T. In the Sangamon County Circuit Court, Lincoln annotates a document that certifies that Deputy Sheriff James M. Maxey has "delivered a copy of the forgoing notice and interrogatories to [the plaintiff's attorney] John D. Urquhart." Maxey signs the document. In the dower case of Bevans v. Brown et al., Lincoln, Stephen T. Logan, and John T. Stuart represent numerous heirs and James N. Brown, who is the administrator of the deceased John Bevans's estate. John D. Urquhart and Stephen A. Douglas represent Bevans's widow Margaret Bevans. In his will, John Bevans directed that his wife should receive "one Bed of the Second choice, and one third of my Bedding together with one fifth part of my corn and meat." Lincoln writes to Chicago attorney Jonathan Y. Scammon regarding money due to Kinzie & Hall from the estate of Samuel Musick, and signs the letter "Stuart & Lincoln." Lincoln writes, "We suppose there is a small sum in the hands of our Probate Justice due to the claim of Kinzie & Hall against Musick. Procure an order to the Probate Justice from Kinzie & Hall to pay over to us what may be due them, and we will draw it and send it to you." After Kinzie & Hall authorize the Probate Justice to pay the judgment due to them to Lincoln, Lincoln will forward the money to Scammon.Abraham Lincoln to Jonathan Y.
